People everywhere are experiencing additional stress as we head into the final stretch of the year. In fact, nearly 2/3 of the workforce are reporting feelings of moderate burnout (Cision). As a Manager, how can you support your team in the workplace? How can you alleviate burnout and effectively engage your team?
Truvelop Tip: Build Resilience with Gratitude
When periods are high-stress or hectic, it can be easy to get caught up in the day-to-day demands. However, teams that take the time to reflect and interact on a human level during a simple check-in or an employee assessment are going to be more productive overall. Try asking these 3 questions to gauge how your team is doing:
On a scale of 1-10, how engaged are you currently feeling by your work? Know how your team is feeling. How much support do they need? Are they disengaged by their work, or is there something outside of work that is causing their disengagement? Express appreciation for their efforts and emphasize the value that they bring to the team.
What percentage of your work do you currently find inspiring? Knowing what inspires your team is important. How can you further incorporate that kind of work into their role? When was the last time you celebrated their efforts in this work? It may be time for a Praise Spark to drive feelings of pride and gratitude.
What percentage of your work do you find demotivating? What about this work do you find demotivating? Knowing what is actively demotivating your team or causing them stress can help you to mitigate this kind of work, solve for a solution, or at least emphasize the “why” behind this work. Be sure to express gratitude for their efforts, especially in this area. Additionally, celebrate how this work has helped them grow. By highlighting their learning takeaways and growth, they can begin to view this work in a more positive light.
As a Manager, you are the first line of defense against turnover. By supporting your team, investing time into their experience, and showing that you care about their wellbeing, you’re keeping the human element in their development. By taking the time to listen and celebrate their growth and wins, you can ensure your employee is proud, grateful, and feels valued.
An employee who feels seen and supported is going to be more resilient when they face challenges. As we head into the hectic, year-end stretch, this will be more important than ever. Initiate the conversation with a Spark today!
