Create a Strong Foundation for Year-End Sprints

In a recent survey from McKinsey, they found that 70 percent of employees said that their sense of purpose is defined by their work. Your purpose or your “why” can be ever evolving, but it is a key driver of engagement and motivation in the workplace. Do you know where you stand today?

Truvelop Tip: Plan with Purpose

There are three pieces that go into having a strong sense of purpose: a strong foundational understanding of your role and responsibilities, knowing where you stand today, and having a clear picture of your future with your organization. Below are reflection questions that can drive a proactive conversation with your manager around your sense of purpose.

A Strong Foundation: Do you have a clear understanding of what is expected of you in your role? Do you feel like you are making an impact? How does your role play a part in the organization’s larger mission, vision, and values?

Know Where You Stand Today: What is currently going well? What are your current strengths? Is there anything you need support on? Is there anything preventing you from successfully fulfilling your purpose?

Plan for the Future: Where do you see yourself in 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years? Do you feel like you have the ability to grow with your organization? What do you need to move forward? How can your manager best support your development?

Your experience and development are top priorities for your organization. With proactive communication, you can efficiently grow with your organization, while also strengthening your relationship with your manager and team.

Did you know that strong feelings of gratitude have a direct positive correlation to increased resilience? As we head into the final stretch of the year, it’ll be important that you have a strong foundation in place. The end of the year always holds some additional stress between the holidays and the last sprint to hit our goals. By practicing gratitude now, you can prepare yourself to bounce back and navigate the pressure with ease.

Truvelop Tip: Express Gratitude to Drive Resilience

Gratitude can look like a lot of different things. Practicing regular gratitude has been shown to improve health and mood, strengthen relationships, and create a more positive perception of quality of life, even during periods of high-stress. In the workplace, this means greater motivation, greater inspiration, more positive Manager-Team Member relationships, and an overall more positive employee experience. Whether we are explicitly saying thanks or celebrating the progress that we’ve made, we can incorporate gratitude into our daily habits.

Where do you want to incorporate more gratitude?

For your work: What do you enjoy most about your role? What are you most proud of from this past performance period? Knowing what motivates and inspires you can help you to tap into those components more when you’re feeling a bit more stressed or even disengaged. For your team: Was there anyone who helped you to overcome an obstacle recently? What makes your team unique? Your team is your support system, so finding ways to give a shoutout or say thank you helps everyone to feel good about their contributions. Send a Spark to this Team Member to let them know you appreciate their contributions.

For your organization: Do you believe in your organization’s mission? Which of their values do you most align with? Reminding yourself of what you like most about where you work can be a great way to express gratitude and renew commitment to your work.

As we enter the final push of the year, everyone can use a good reminder of what they appreciate most about their employee experience. When we take the time to take stock of all that we are grateful for, we can boost our resilience, motivation, and engagement, and finish the year on a high note.
