Happy New Year! To end 2021, we completed one last employee assessment to ensure that we had a baseline for each Team Member to work forward from in 2022. For many, this is a chance to take advantage of last year’s reflections, accomplishments, & challenges, and make the most of the new year.

As you embark on this year’s goal setting process and begin completing Sparks and evaluations for 2022, we hope you take the time to utilize the tools right at your fingertips. With multiple data points to reference and reflect upon, managers are gearing up for 2022 by thinking about what needs to be accomplished in the coming year, what development opportunities exist for each team member and identifying any barriers or challenges to success.
Send real-time feedback in the moment when it counts. With Spark, it’s easy to reinforce the right behaviors, share coaching moments, identify development opportunities, and document corrective actions. Set goals with your team. Have you visited our Goal-Setting resources? As you embark on this year’s goal setting process, don’t forget to pause for reflection and engage in collaborative open dialogue with your team. Start by acknowledging what a challenging year 2021 has been and congratulate each team member for their resilience. Next, move on! Focus on the goals and positive opportunities that lie ahead.
Encourage a continuous feedback loop between you and your team. Spark is a great way for Managers and Team Members to engage in a continuous & flexible goal setting model where frequent touch points are encouraged throughout the year versus a “set it and forget it” approach. Start a continuous feedback loop with your direct report by sending some real-time feedback! It’s important Team Members know you’re available to coach and guide them. The 2022 start has been quite the sprint! From playing catch-up from the holidays to COVID outbreaks causing staff shortages, it feels like we’re all just trying to keep up rather than get ahead. With these periods of high stress and demand, it’s important to remember this is temporary and continue to prioritize employee engagement, development, and retention.
Here at Truvelop we view January as the month to set the tone for the rest of the year, and this January is no exception – even with the stressful start. Instead, this is a great opportunity to reinforce to our teams that we are in this together.
Truvelop Tip: Set the Tone with Spark
During a high-stress period, it’s important to overcommunicate. With it being the start of 2022, this is even more important as it sets the standard for the rest of the year. Spark is a great tool for documenting feedback and communicating expectations to our team.
Spark to Reinforce the Right Behaviors. When we’re delivering praise, we tend to simply give a thumbs up or tell a Team Member “great job!” People certainly want to know their work is being recognized and appreciated, but we can make this more impactful by citing exactly what the Team Member did well. The Team Member will feel like their efforts are being seen, and know which behaviors they should be recreating in the future.
Spark to Document 1:1 Meeting Takeaways. Whether you’re having weekly or monthly check-ins, you can ensure everyone is on the same page by using Spark. After a 1:1 Meeting, Spark to document any major takeaways, ask questions, or provide any updates. You and your direct report can respond to the Spark, giving the Team Member autonomy in their own development.
Spark to Measure Progress. Throughout each performance period, you can document Coaching moments, Training opportunities, and Corrective Actions. Each Spark can then be updated with a response to highlight when and to what extent the Team Member implemented the feedback. Turning performance around, or taking initiative to improve is worth recognizing and celebrating!
Try getting creative with how you use Spark! The more documented touchpoints that you can store in one place, the easier it’ll be to tell the full story down the line. 2022 is just getting started, so let’s make sure that we’re setting the direction and communicating frequently and effectively with our teams. Remember, the more touchpoints the better to build engagement and trust.
