Lock-In for H2

Nearly 2/3 of the workforce are currently experiencing at least moderate levels of burnout.  At those levels, it’s no surprise that there are reports of declines in job satisfaction (Cision). Burnout isn’t sustainable, so how can we start to alleviate those feelings of being overwhelmed and undervalued?

Truvelop Tip: Reflect to Check-In

If you’re feeling disengaged or burnt out, or just find yourself feeling the summer slump and bit more strongly this year, it’s important that you check in with your manager by scheduling an employee assessment. Your Manager wants to see you thrive, but they first need to know where you stand. Head into the second half of the year with a plan by reflecting on these 3 questions:

  • On a scale of 1-10, how engaged are you currently feeling by your work? Your manager wants to know how you’re doing. Your engagement is a top priority.
  • What percentage of your work do you currently find inspiring? Knowing what inspires you can help your manager to incorporate more of that kind of work or something similar.
  • What percentage of your work do you find demotivating? Knowing what is actively demotivating you or causing you stress can help your manager to work to mitigate this kind of work for you.

Your organization wants to create an empowering environment that supports your engagement. That starts with a meaningful check-in around how you’re doing and how you’re feeling towards your work. By understanding what’s going well and where you need support, your manager can tailor their guidance to best meet your current needs.

As we wrap up summer, it’s time to lock in. The final stretch of the year tends to feel like a sprint, so create a strong foundation of engagement, motivation, and purpose. In order to perform, grow, and develop efficiently, it’s important to know what you want out of your role.

Truvelop Tip: Remotivate to Refocus

Each role has unique responsibilities and contributes something unique to the organization.  How can you get the most out of your employment experience and gain the skills that will help propel your career forward? By getting remotivated to achieve your goals, you can refocus your energy so that you are spending your time and energy strategically and efficiently.

Map Your Path Forward: Truvelop’s IDP guides help you identify where you see yourself in the future and maps out how to get there.  We recommend completing and updating these guides at least once a year, as your progress, goals, or path may change. Once you’ve completed the guides, respond to a Development Planning Spark initiated by your Manager to get on the same page about what you want out of your experience at your organization.

Share Your “Why”: When you complete your IDP, there’s a section that asks you to reflect on your “why.”  This could include anything that is driving you to come to work and give it your all.  Is it to support your family at home?  Are you trying to get to the next step to further your career?  Are you saving up for a big vacation?  Whatever your “why” is, share it with your Manager so they can advocate for your experience and make sure that your current role is going to best aid you towards achieving your “why.”

Implement Learning Takeaways: Once you’ve completed a project, or you’re coming to the end of a performance period, complete the Growth Mindset Reflection Guide.  This guide will prompt you to reflect on what went well, what you learned, and what you want to do differently going forward.  By taking the time to identify your learning takeaways, you can streamline your growth by focusing your energy on the areas that can have the greatest impact on your performance development.

Here at Truvelop, we strive to make work inspirational.  People want to feel a strong sense of purpose, know that their work matters, and believe that they are making a difference. As a result, they will be more engaged and more likely to perform at their best.  We aren’t mind readers, so we don’t know what inspires you, but if you can take the time to reflect on your motivators and demotivators, then we believe that you can tap into your potential and create the best possible employee experience.

Have you ever heard of performance enablement? Performance enablement is the idea that managers support their team members growth through collaboration, continuous coaching, and dynamic goal-setting. This differs from traditional performance management in that it gives you, the employee, the keys to drive your growth and moves you out of the passenger seat. So, what does this look like in action?
Truvelop Tip: Collaborate for Performance Enablement
Continuous Coaching: If you don’t already have a regular check-in set-up, reach out to your manager and set-up a recurring 10 minute meeting. Emphasize that your growth is important to you and you want to develop your skills. With regular coaching, you can ensure that you stay ahead of the curve and see consistent growth and development.
Collaborate and Learn: Want to learn more about the business and build stronger relationships with your manager/peers? Seek out collaboration opportunities. Not only will you get a hands-on learning opportunity, but you’ll be showing an interest in growth and development.
Create Dynamic Goals: Goal-setting is something that tends to fall to wayside. You set it one week and then forget about in the next. Instead of setting lofty long-term goals, focus on short-term, measurable, skills-focused goals. These quick goals can keep you moving in the right direction, while also leaving room to stay flexible and prioritize current demands as they arise.
YOU are the driver of your development. Help your manager to enable your development by taking initiative and highlighting what you’re interested in. By taking the lead, you can set the pace and see the growth that you’re looking for.
